Gift Economy
In creating Classroom Alive we are striving to find how we can be in a healthy relationship with money, resources and relationships. We want to be conscious about how gifts are received, and how they are given on. We wish to allow everyone to participate in a way that is right for them. To us, this means taking up the work we love and giving it freely and joyfully. It means openly receiving support from those who recognize value in what we are doing. It means giving to what we see as valuable in the world. We want to freely and openly invite you into this conversation!
Below you can find how to give if you feel inspired to, how any money we are receiving from different sources will flow, and the vision and concepts that inform how we work with money.

3 Ways to Give...
MONETARY GIFT - FOOD
Walking bodies create hungry bellies. Food and breaking bread sit at the heart of nourishing community. One lovely way you can support us is to offer a contribution towards our food during the walk. See below for more details on how the money will flow. |
HUMAN CONNECTION - SHELTER & CONVERSATIONS
One of the most beautiful sides of our journey will no doubt be the people we meet along the way. Perhaps you know someone along the route who we could have a cup of tea with or could offer us a place to rest our heads for a night? |
SHARE IN THE STORY - INSPIRATION
Classroom Alive is much bigger than just those who walk the coast. Please join us for the journey by following us online, sharing your reflections and spreading the word to friends and connections. Together we can inspire each other to a richer, more vibrant life. Follow Us on Facebook: |
MONETARY Gift Flow
DURING THE JOURNEY
We are incredibly grateful to receive any gifts that are offered to support our journey and wish to be as transparent as possible in how they are received and used. The flow of any monetary gifts will be as follows:
70% of all monetary gifts will be directed towards providing healthy, local and sustainable food for the participants during the walk - thus feeding both walking bodies and local food economies. 30% of all monetary gifts will be held in reserve to be directed towards the Corrymeela Poly-Tunnel Learning Space project to nourish and support healthy people and learning long into after we put down our backpacks. |
FLOWING FORWARD: POLY TUNNEL LEARNING SPACE
All remaining gifted funds from the walk once complete will be added together with the reserved 30% and be donated to the Corrymeela Poly-Tunnel Learning Space project.
We feel it both vital and exciting that we can give something back to the people and land who will host us on our journey. We have chosen to do this by donating surplus financial support to Corrymeela, an internationally recognized peace & reconciliation centre near Ballycastle where our journey will end. This money will go towards creating a poly tunnel learning space on their residential site to both provide local sustainable food as well as providing a learning space to engaging many of their 7000 visitors a year in learning about sustainable food systems. |
Corrymeela
Corrymeela is an internationally recognized peace & reconciliation centre whose objective is the promotion of reconciliation, dialogue and encounter to further the healing of social, religious, and political divisions in Northern Ireland and beyond. It runs programmes aimed at establishing a shared society defined by tolerance, where differences are resolved through dialogue in the public sphere and where there is equity, respect for diversity and recognition of interdependence.
