A Simple Vision
Classroom Alive: Ireland is beautifully simple.
The purpose is to walk from Kinsale in the south of Ireland 1000 miles up the Atlantic coast to Ballycastle in the north between May 5th and July 13th. During the journey each participant will carry their home on their back and explore a question they hold in their life.
With our questions as our guides, the coast our compass and the landscape, the people and our bodies our teachers - this is our classroom.
More broadly Classroom Alive is also beautifully simple. It is the simple deceleration that learning is tied to no institution or classroom but to the mind and heart of the learner. It is an invitation to ask and follow the questions 'how do I wish to participate in this world?' and 'what questions tug at my heart and stir my mind?' It is the challenge to take up the responsibility to become the shaper of your life.
WALKING
The learning platform of Classroom Alive: Ireland is underpinned by the rhythm of walking. Classroom Alive recognizes that walking as a medium is unique in being both focused and open, allowing us the stability of a set goal while continually exposing us to new situations, interactions and experience that arise from being in a classroom that is literally alive to challenge and enhance our learning.
KINSALE TO BALLYCASLTE
The core Classroom Alive: Ireland group will travel by foot up the Atlantic coast of Ireland - from Kinsale, Co. Cork in the South to Ballycastle, Co. Antrim in the North covering an estimated 1000 miles. The journey will use the newly launched 'Wild Atlantic Way' as the base guide for our route up the coast, while our exact path will emerge as we go.
AN INVITATION
The principle of walking with a question is not limited to walking the coast of Ireland, it simply requires putting one foot in front of the other. So it doesn't matter whether you walk 1 mile or 1000 between May and July, all participating in Classroom Alive requires is a shift in attention. We invite you to find your question, shift your gaze, step into the classroom and journey with us wherever you are.
